For three years, Nia Okafor visited people whose days are shaped by growing and caring: allotment holders, greenhouse workers, a florist on the night shift and members of her own family. The resulting portraits attend equally to faces, hands and the cultivated spaces around them.

Cultivated Rooms opens the Stockholm autumn season across the full gallery. Seven large canvases occupy the main room, while panel studies, open sketchbooks, seed envelopes and working drawings bring the project’s smaller observations together upstairs.

A children’s planting session takes place in the courtyard on opening day. The accompanying book pairs Okafor’s notes about each sitter with a new essay by Marta Lind.
